THE PROCESS

The Storm easy care system couldn't be any simpler. Storm use a truly unique one wash cycle process which allows you to clean and re-proof in just one wash cycle. Saving you time, water and energy.

  • HOW IS STORM CLEAN & RE-PROOF DIFFERENT?

The Storm process includes two products, a cleaner (hydrophilic water attracting chemistry) to remove dirt & impurities, and a re-proofer (hydrophobic water repelling chemistry)

By ensuring that each step takes place your gear gets a thorough clean and a robust water repellent finish in just one wash cycle.

  • WHAT ABOUT "2-IN-1" PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET?

It is chemically impossible to provide both a cleaner & re-proofer in one bottle, this is because cleaning agents (Hydrophillic) and proofing agents (Hydrophobic) create opposite surface tension, one inviting water to clean, and one repelling water to proof. Whilst 60% of cleaning is mechanical, the Storm cleaner provides the essential 40% chemical clean to ensure your garment surface is properly prepared for the re-proofing stage, providing superior results.

  • WHY IS IT CALLED "EASY CARE ONE WASH CYCLE"?

Because you can effectively clean & re-proof using just one wash cycle. Save money, time, water and energy by adding Storm Wash to the detergent compartment and your Storm Proofer to your conditioning compartment. Easy!

  • 1. PREPARATION

Shake both Storm Apparel Wash and Proofer well before use. Give your washing machine drawer a quick rinse to remove existing household detergents that may damage your garment.

  • 2. LOAD YOUR WASHER

Place up-to two dirty garments in the washing machine.

  • 3. ADD STORM PRODUCT

Pour just 50ml of Apparel Wash into the detergent compartment and 50ml of the Apparel Proofer into the conditioner compartment.

  • 4. WASH YOUR APPAREL

Set your washing machine to a gentle cycle with cold or warm water (following the garment manufacturer’s guidelines).

  • 5. DRY

After the wash cycle, allow your garments to drip dry for 20 minutes and then tumble dry on a low heat setting to activate the water repellent finish.

  • 6. PREPARE FOR YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

Restored performance, ready for the elements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IF I DONT HAVE A DRIER?

No problem at all. Storm Apparel Proofer is a heat cure solution, this means you need to add a form of heat in order to activate the DWR performance. This emulates the way your garment will have been made at the point of production. To activate your DWR without a drier, simply go through the normal easy care one wash cycle, leave your jacket to air dry and then check your garments care label, if its safe to do so iron your garment on a low temperature setting as per your care instruction label, making sure to add a clean, damp cloth between your outer textile and the iron itself. If you have no iron or drier, simply hang your garment close to your radiator and rotate your garment from time to time to make sure all exterior faces of the garment have been directly exposed to the radiator heat.

WHY CAN'T I USE AN EVERYDAY DETERGENT?

Everyday detergents are fantastic at cleaning garments of oil stains, dirt and grime from everyday wear. Unfortunately they are also very good at stripping your technical wear from any DWR, glues and other chemical treatments you've paid so much money for. In addition they by design leave new chemicals such as optical brighteners (that make your whites, white!) and fragrances that clog up your membrane and make it challenging to reproof your garment. We always recommend, as will your garments brand, using a technical cleaner and reproofer such as Storm with technical wear in order to avoid damage and deterioration to your garment.

WHAT IF I'VE ALREADY USED A HOUSEHOLD DETERGENT?

Not all is lost! if your garment is still intact but its water repellency has faultered, your first step is to remove any additional chemicals left by the detergent. Run a wash cycle just using water to flush out anything that may be lingering in your textile. You may need to do this a few times to fully remove any additional chemicals. At this point simply run your Storm easy care wash cycle as designed to reproof your garment, making sure to add heat in the final stage to activate the DWR performance.

WHY ARE STORM PRODUCTS SO EXPENSIVE WHEN COMPARED TO OTHER PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET?

Storm products can appear expensive at first glance but rest assured your price per wash is just as competitive. Storm products are super concentrated, meaning we ship less water and weight. With Storm products you only need to use 50ml of solution to clean and reproof up-to 2 garments. Other manufactures can require up to 100ml per garment. With Storm's patented abrasion resistant chemistry, your re-proof will also last longer, meaning you need to re-proof less often. When shopping for aftercare always check the price per wash vs the bottle size to accurately work out the best value for you.
